Both federal and state law mandate reapportionment and redistricting. Reapportionment refers to the allocation of political seats in reference to the distribution of congressional seats among the fifty states. Redistricting refers to the delineation of boundaries for political units, such as state legislative and county commission districts. This process takes place every 10 years after new U.S. Census Data is received.
Anderson County is represented in the Tennessee State Legislature by State Senate District 5 and State House Districts 33 and 36. The County Legislative body is divided into eight districts represented by two commission members each. The County School Board also uses the same eight districts with one member representing each district.
